Department of Fishery Science

Introduction:

Department of Fishery Science was established in the Toshniwal Arts, Commerce and Science College, Sengaon, Hingoli with an idea to create technical and knowledgeable manpower as well as provide technical support so as to boost fishery activities in the region. The region has great potential for the fishery production, comprising different water resources which can be exploited and utilized for immense fish production through culture, capture as well as culture based capture fishery practices. This will not only produce nutritious diet for society but also will help in generation of numerous opportunities for livelihood and income generation. This will trigger many other allied practices and business such as fish processing and storage, transportation, seed production and supply, feed production and supply, ornamental fish business etc. will flourish. The department has well equipped laboratory, expertise teaching faculty specialized in the field of fishery science and collection of books. The department is motivated to create technically sound and expertise manpower, development of different techniques and products in the field of fisheries through research, transfer the modern technology to the layman and fishers through extension and consultancy.

Aim:

To create knowledgeable, technically sound and efficient manpower to serve the fishery sector and also provide necessary technical support to the fishery sector in order to trigger the fisheries and allied activity in the region.

Objectives:

1. To create technically sound & efficient fishery graduates through effective teaching to serve and develop the fishery sector.
2. To develop different technologies in different fields of the fisheries through innovative research.
3. To transfer the modern technologies to the people through extension.
4. To create awareness about different fishery activities among the folks in the region through trainings & demonstrations.
5. To arrange workshops, seminars, meets and training program for gathering of scientific and technical community along with students and fishers for sharing of recent knowledge and technologies in the fishery sector.
6. To coordinate with other institutions, departments, policy makers as well as officers from the fisheries field to trigger coordinated and collaborative efforts for the development of fishery sector.
7. To encourage & promote the self employment in the fishery sector.
8. To provide the assistance & consultancy in different fishery sector.
9. To promot utilization of water resources in the region to enhancing fish production.

Department offers optional course of fishery science to fulfill the requirement of Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) course offered by SRTMU, Nanded
